Forlì is situated halfway between Bologna, Rimini and Ravenna, just in the heart of a privileged position that extends in the middle of Romagna. It is one of the most important historical, cultural and artistic cities of the whole region. The city tour should start with the visit to the central Piazza Aurelio Saffi, which is one of the largest squares in Italy. Erected in the XII century, it was repeatedly renovated over the centuries but still retains its original historic-artistic importance. It is flanked by a high Romanesque bell tower by Francesco Daddi, and the central portal is surmounted by a thirteenth-century wonderful high relief.
Forlì's old town is crossed by picturesque lanes and mysterious nooks and crannies. It hosts wonderful buildings, such as the Neoclassical Duomo, the Church of Carmine and the Church of St. Croce. The local Palazzo dell’Ospedale Vecchio is home to the city's Picture Gallery. Not to be missed is the imposing Ravaldino Fortress, whose central courtyard is often the venue for important summer concerts and events.
Forlì is scattered with excellent restaurants that serve tasty traditional specialities from Romagna. The prestigious spa establishments of Castrocaro and Fratta are situated a short distance from the city centre. Not to be missed are the enchanting naturalistic itineraries of the National Park of the Casentino Forests.
