San
Marino is the oldest Republic in the history, and, with a total surface of 60 km2, one of the smallest states in the world. Legend has it that it was founded in the IV century, when Saint
Marino, a stone-cutter from Dalmatia, fled to the top of Mount Titano to escape persecutions under the emperor Diocletian and started gathering a small independent community of people. Over the course of the centuries, this community has always protected its independence fiercely.

Every corner of the Republic is rich in history. Those who stay at the hotels of the old town will have the opportunity to admire the major attractions, such as the three impressive fortresses that rise on the top of Mount Titano. Not to be missed is Palazzo
Pubblico, the political centre of the State and seat of the local Parliament, the so-called Consiglio Grande e Generale. In 1800, this sumptuous palace of ancient origins was totally rebuilt according to the project of Francesco Azzurri. Last but not least is the Basilica of St.
Marino, which boasts ancient origins but was subsequently remodelled according to the canons of the Neoclassical style at the end of 1800.

Even if San Marino is not part of the European Union, the local currency is Euro. The peculiar Euro sammarinese attracts plenty of numismatists, and so do the artistic stamps of the republic.
Tourists flocking to a hotel in San Marino to spend their holidays in this picturesque ancient village will have the possibility to enjoy great emotions a short distance from the compelling beaches of the Riviera.
